TAIGA DOJO IS TEACHING KYOKUSHIN KARATE BASED ON THE THREE MAIN PILLARS – KIHON / KATA / KUMITE:
1. 基本 / Kihon – The Fundamentals
Kihon (and Idō Geiko – basics in motion) focuses on developing foundational techniques and concepts:
- Kicking, punching, blocking
- Elbow and knee strikes
- Proper form, power, and timing
This pillar builds physical strength, coordination, and sharpens mental focus through repetition and precision.

2. 型 / Kata – The Form
Through the structured practice of Kata, students develop:
- Fighting technique
- Balance and coordination
- Breathing control and concentration
Kata is a powerful method of mind-body training, helping students embody the spirit and strategy of real combat.

3. 組手 / Kumite – The Fight
Kumite (“grappling hands”) is where theory meets reality. It is live partner training using all techniques learned in Kihon.
At Taiga Dojo, we place special emphasis on Kumite as a way to apply tactics, develop reflexes, and build a fighting mindset.
There are multiple levels of Kumite we practice:

> 約束組手 Yakusoku Kumite – Partner Drills
- Pre-arranged strike/block/kick combinations
- Blending Kyokushin Karate with Muay Thai and Kickboxing
> 実戦組手 Jissen Kumite – Sparring
- Full-contact sparring under traditional Kyokushin rules
- Bare-knuckle fighting, no protective gear
> 競争 Kyōsō – Competition
- Tournament rounds under full-contact Karate rules
- Bare-knuckle bouts & K-1 Kickboxing rulesets
